How to Prepare for Fitness Assessments and What to
Expect
Resting Metabolism (RMR)-
-
You need
to be fasted for this test. Do not eat anything for
approximately 10 hours prior
to the test. Do not take any supplements or drink any caffeinated
beverages. Drinking water is ok.
-
Due to the
fasting requirement, this test should be scheduled first thing in the
morning if possible.
-
Try to
limit activity prior to your visit. Do not exercise that morning.
Bod Pod -
-
The measurement is taken in a swimsuit, preferably 2 piece for women, speedo type for men. (Don't worry, we have them available if you don't have one!)
We provide you a swim cap as well.
-
Refrain from eating
about 3 hours before your visit.
-
Wait at least
1 hour if you've worked out. The air in the 'Bod Pod' is measured to get your body density.
Elevated breathing and body temperature may interfere.
-
You will
simply sit inside the Bod Pod while a technician conducts 2-3 short
tests.
Other helpful
notes :
-
Try to schedule subsequent visits under the same conditions... time of day, hydration levels, etc.
-
An individual
coming in the first time should plan on spending about 30 minutes, two
people, about 45 minutes. After the first visit, it only takes about
15 minutes.
-
If your appointment is scheduled first thing in the morning drinking some
water is OK. You want to come in on an empty stomach, however normal
hydration is expected.
-
Smile! This is fun and you get to see what you're made of!
VO2 Max -
-
You will
need comfortable clothes and shoes for walking, running or riding the
stationary bike.
-
Eat as you
normally would before exercising.
-
Do not
work out prior to coming in for your VO2 Max test to insure accurate
results. Make sure you allow 24 hours of recovery time from any
intense exercise prior to your visit.
