The African American Male
Empowerment Commission was established by Columbus,
Ohio Mayor
Michael B. Coleman, and City Councilman Kevin Boyce. The primary purpose
of the commission is to address the high level
of homicides in the Black Community and to
reduce all other crimes in Columbus,
Ohio and surrounding areas in general. Walter Smith
was one of three individuals selected to design
programs and a strategy to address the
community crime problems.
Power 107.5, WCKX, created a weekly talk show,
hosted by Walter Smith, Sunday's 7:00 PM till
9:00 PM, designed to give
particularly youth and others a voice regarding relevant issues in the
community such as, education, drug usage,
incarceration, teen pregnancy, parenting, health fitness
and nutrition, just to mention a few. Walter is
provided the opportunity to share his inspirational
materials with the listening audience on the top hip
hop and R&B radio station in Columbus,
Ohio.
