| Rick Freitag - Professional Strongman
*Update* 12/21/06 The next competition for Rick is in Salina Kansas on March 3rd. It is a pro-am. The events are:1. Max Log Clean and Press2. Deadlift Medley3. Power Stairs4. Drag Carry Medley5. Atlas StonesRick will then prepare for 105kg Pro Nationals in early summer.Here is a video clip of recent PR for Rick. Not 100%, but I believe this is the largest stone ever loaded by 105kg Strongman competitor anywhere.

06/20/06 While preparing for World Strongman Challenge in Tulsa OK Rick injured his left quad tendon. Rick competed despite the injury and won the tire flip and sled drag medley against some of the highest ranked 105kg Pro Strongmen in the world. Rick, however, was unable to perform the other events at the level he expected because of the injury. Rick will take the next 2-3 months to rehab his knee and prepare for another contest soon. 02/08/06 - Rick will be entering his first contest as a Professional. The World Strongman Challenge will be held in Tulsa, OK on May 19th-20th. The competition will have 20 lightweight and 20 heavyweight competitors from all over the world - including the top four lightweight competitors in the world and the current World Lightweight Champion. There is over $30,000 in cash prizes to be split equally between LW & HW competitors. Here is a rundown of the events to be spread out over both days:

Luck Rick!! 11/06/05 - Rick wins the Overall Lightweight National Title and takes home a Pro Card! A big day for Rick with over 60 National competitors. Rick's events were as follows: A car deadlift, which he did 10 times in 75 seconds. The car deadlift was performed using a straight bar with weight equal to 550-600 lbs in hand, coming to a complete stop at the bottom. The Farmers walk, where he carried a 240lb implement in each hand for 160' in 32 seconds. A 220 lb log clean and press each rep for 9 reps. An 8,000 lb truck pull with a harness. Rick pulled the truck 80' in 23 seconds. The final event was the Atlas Stones where Rick completed lifts of 240, 260, 300 and 330 lb stones onto a 54" platform in 24 seconds. Rick dieted down from a high of 280 to make the 231 weight class. Rick used the Bod Pod to make sure he didn't lose any lean mass while dieting. He credits former training partner Scott Buxton of Baseline Fitness with helping him to accomplish this amazing transformation. After working through the past year to recover from his bicep tear, Rick competed in August to qualify for the North American Strongman Nationals. Rick Competed in the Strongman Nationals Oct. 8th - 10th. Unfortunately, Rick suffered a rupture of his bicep tendon, on the last day of the competitions. Under the care of the best micro surgeon in the Midwest, Rick is on the mend and will take some time off before the Strongman season starts back up in the spring. American Strongman Society Nationals at the GNC Show of Strength in In June, Rick competed at the Mountaineer Cup in April 24th, 2004 was the date for the 'Azalea Festival Strong Man Challenge'. Rick placed 4th securing his spot at the Nationals again this year. Great job Rick! Here are some pics from the show and picture of Rick, after the competition, reporting back to us in Columbus! The Strongman Nationals were held October 3rd and 4th, 2003 in Myrtle Beach, SC. Rick had a fantastic finish with 5th in the 275lb class. Very impressive first time National showing. Richard Freitag, longtime Powerlifter, stepped up to the Strongman Challenge last year competing in 'Dino Days' right here in Columbus. Soon after, he joined up with Scott Buxton (owner, Baseline Fitness) to prepare for competitions in 2003.
